Elective Policies

POLICIES ON OVERLOADING

Liberal Arts Electives

A Double Degree Programme (DDP) student who wishes to overload with a liberal arts elective in a particular semester must submit an overload request to the Assistant Dean of his/her Residential College, and seek approval from the DDP Head of Studies.

Students will be allowed to overload with additional Yale-NUS modules for that semester if this request is approved by both the Assistant Dean and the Head of Studies.

Combined Law and Liberal Arts (CLLA) Electives

DDP students who wish to overload with a CLLA elective in a particular semester must submit an overload request to the Assistant Dean of his/her Residential College. Further, he/she will need to seek approval from the DDP Head of Studies and the NUS Law Vice Dean for Academic Affairs.

Law Electives

DDP students who wish to overload with Law Electives in a particular semester must seek approval from the NUS Law Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, and keep the DDP Head of Studies informed.

Each DDP student is only allowed to take 8-10 Modular Credits (MC) of Law electives and 14-15 MC of Combined Law and Liberal Arts (CLLA) Electives over the five-year programme. DDP students who would like to overload with additional electives at NUS Law must seek approval from the NUS Law Vice Dean for Academic Affairs to read them as enrichment, and keep the DDP Head of Studies informed. They must provide justifications for their requests, which are considered on a case-by-case basis.

Students who are granted approval will be required to complete all assessments, and their obtained grade will be reflected on their transcript. However, enrichment modules will not be counted towards graduation requirements. Neither will they be included in the computation of Class of Honours. Upon obtaining approval, students will still be required to register for the module during the relevant registration exercise.

COMBINED LAW AND LIBERAL ARTS (CLLA) ELECTIVES

DDP students will have to read a total of 14-15MC of CLLA Electives over the five-year programme. The list of approved CLLA Electives can be found here.

DDP students can also request for Yale-NUS or NUS Law Electives that have not already been approved as a CLLA Elective to be counted as a CLLA elective. Any such requests should be sent to the DDP Head of Studies and Ketty Li (ketty.li@yale-nus.edu.sg).
