Semester Study Abroad Information

Double Degree Programme (DDP) students can go on exchange programmes in Year Four Semester Two, either through NUS Law or Yale-NUS. More information regarding the possible exchange programme opportunities DDP students can embark on can also be found on the Study Abroad page.

Application Timeline & Regulations

  • Students interested in applying for the Student Exchange Programme (SEP) with NUS Law may do so in Year Three Semester One. More details can be found here.
  • Students interested in applying for a Semester Study Abroad with Yale-NUS may do so with CIPE in Year Four Semester One. More details can be found here.
  • Students will no longer be eligible to apply for exchange programmes through Yale-NUS once they have been offered a place to go on exchange programmes at a partner university by NUS Law.

Additional Considerations

  • Going on exchange programmes will delay the completion of a compulsory law module (LC2006 Equity & Trusts), which would otherwise be completed in Y4S2. Students who go on exchange programmes will complete the module in their fifth year, which will offer LC2006 Equity & Trusts in Semester Two. Please refer to the sample module schedule below.
  • Students who participate in the SEP with NUS Law will be completing most of their Law Electives and Combined Law and Liberal Arts Electives (CLLA) while on exchange. Interested students should pay close attention to the types of elective modules offered by partner universities under NUS Law and consult Yale-NUS before making their decision to apply.
  • Students should also pay close attention to the various graduation criteria, and whether these criteria may be satisfied while they are on exchange. This includes the mapping of modules taken on exchange programmes to complete the CLLA Elective and Civil Law Elective requirements.

Credit Transfer Procedures

SEP with NUS Law

Modules completed whilst on the SEP with NUS Law can be mapped towards (1) Law Elective Requirements; and/or (2) Combined Law/Liberal Arts Elective Requirements. Students are required to seek and obtain approval for the modules they intend to read during the SEP prior to the start of their exchange semester, by completing the module mapping application via EduRec. Therefore, students participating in the SEP with NUS Law will only need to submit their module mapping on EduRec for approval:

  • Where the mapping request is made towards the completion of Law Electives, prior approval by NUS Law is required.
  • Where the mapping request is made towards the completion of Combined Law/Liberal Arts Electives, prior approval by the DDP Head of Studies is required.
Semester Study Abroad with Yale-NUS

Modules completed whilst on a Semester Study Abroad with Yale-NUS can mapped towards:

  • Yale-NUS Elective requirements; or
  • Yale-NUS Major/Minor requirements. This requires prior approval by the relevant Major Head of Studies/Minor Advisor; or
  • Combined Law/Liberal Arts Elective requirements. This requires prior approval by the DDP Head of Studies and NUS Law.
